December 21st, 2015 was truly a very special day for Gates Collision Centers and a local veteran and his family. Gates Collision Centers is a member of the Recycled Rides Program which is a nationwide, non-profit project, organized by the National Auto Body Council. Vehicles are repaired and donated to families in need, chosen by local community organizations. Gates Collision Centers gives it services and time to repair the donated vehicle.
This year, BJ Ganem, A U.S. Marine and disabled Iraq war veteran was chosen as our recipient. The presentation was held at the Armed Forces Reserve Center where BJ Ganem received the keys to a 2007 Ford F150 truck donated by American Family Insurance and refurbished by Gates Collision Centers through the Recycled Rides Program..
B.J. joined the Marine Corps in 1996 and served in various capacities while also working in sales for Kraft Foods. In 2004 he was called to serve in Iraq and in November 2004, the vehicle B.J. was driving was struck by an IED (improvised explosive device). B.J. lost his lower left leg, suffered a traumatic brain injury and various other wounds. Here is a video of B.J. appearing on the David Letterman show in January 2014 as captain of the Wounded Warrior Amputee Football team.
